2020 Bat Fest
I was invited to give an online seminar in the “Bat Fest” organized by the Museo de Historia Natural "Vera Alleman H." of the Universidad Ricardo Palma. The title of my talk was: Cuánto conocemos sobre la diversidad de murciélagos en el Perú. I talked about the different adaptations that make bats one of the most amazing animals on earth. I was excited that most of my audience was composed of kids and they had some interesting questions. |
Peru's Ministry of Environment Interview - 2020
I was interviewed by the “Ministerio del Ambiente del Peru” to talk about the importance of bats and their role in our ecosystem, and to clarify their role in the pandemic. |

I was invited by the "Programa de Conservación de Murciélagos de la República Dominicana" to give an online seminar via Zoom and Youtube. The title of my talk was: "Diversidad de Murciélagos en el Cuaternario de La Española." It was a great way to share my research on the bat fossils collected in flooded cave systems. |

I was invited by the "Programa de Conservación de Murciélagos de Perú" to give an online seminar via Facebook Live. The title of my talk was: "Resolviendo el Rompecabezas: Sistemática y Taxonomía de Murciélagos Neotropicales." It was a great way to share the recent changes and problems on the systematics and taxonomy of Neotropical bats. |
AMNH Day of the Dead Festival -- 2019
I was invited to participate in the AMNH Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) festival. I had two tables with a diverse array of fossils. I enjoyed talking, with my special assistant (my daughter), to people of all ages about animals that once roamed the earth. |

CEBIO - IV International Bat Course 2018
The fourth edition of the CEBIO International Bat Course: Systematic, Ecology and Conservation (20-30 August) took place in the Biological Station "José Álvarez Alonso" at the "National Reserve Allpahuayo Mishana" in Loreto, Peru. Located in the middle of the Amazonian rainforest, Loreto includes a variety of habitats with a great diversity of bats. For this edition we had 26 students from 11 different countries. We had a great time: students learned different techniques used to study bats in the field, including acoustic monitoring, roost searching, mistnetting using ground-level, canopy, and triple high mist nets, and harp traps. |
2017 Bats & Brews Benefit
I was invited to give a talk at the 8th Annual Seatuck Bats & Brews Benefit organized by The Seatuck Environmental Associationt. The title of my talk was "Cave Bats, Suction Disks, & Teeth." It was a great gathering where I enjoyed talking about bats and tasting the products of an awesome array of local breweries. |

AMNH Shelf Life series
Our research with tritylodontids published here was portrayed in the first episode of the second season of the AMNH Shelf Life series. We described two new genera and species of tritylodontids from the upper Jurassic of Mongolia. This episode highlights the importance of dentition in the discovery of new species in mammals and related groups. |

CEBIO - II International Bat Course 2014
The second edition of the CEBIO International Bat Course: Systematic, Ecology and Conservation (27 January-6 February) took place in the Reserva Ecológica Taricaya and the Centro de Investigación y Capacitación Río Los Amigos (CICRA)" in Madre de Dios, Peru. Located in the middle of the Amazonian rainforest, Madre de Dios includes a variety of habitats with a great diversity of bats. For this edition we had 25 students from 10 different countries. Students were trained in different aspects of the biology, ecology systematics and conservation of bats. Additionally, of course, we had a great time exploring different techniques to study bats in the field. |
CEBIO - I International Bat Course 2012
The first edition of the International Bat Course: Systematic, Ecology and Conservation (13-24 January) took place in the legendary "Centro de Investigaciones Jenaro Herrera" in the department of Loreto, Peru. We had a great time in the Peruvian Amazon. Students learned different techniques to study bats in the field and were trained in different aspects of the biology, ecology systematics and conservation of bats. |
