21 October 2020 --- I was invited to give an online seminar in the “Bat Fest” organized by the Museo de Historia Natural "Vera Alleman H." of the Universidad Ricardo Palma. The title of my talk was: Cuánto conocemos sobre la diversidad de murciélagos en el Perú. I talked about the different adaptations that make bats one of the most amazing animals on earth. I was excited that most of my audience was composed of kids and they had some interesting questions. 13 October 2020 --- I gave an interview to the Peruvian Ministry of Environment to talk about the importance of bats and their role in our ecosystem, and to clarify their role in the pandemic. 12 October 2020 --- I was invited to give an online seminar at IV Simposio Peruano de Murciélagos organized by the PCMP and CEBIO. The title of my talk was: Cuantas Especies de Murciélagos hay en el Perú? I talked about how our knowledge about the diversity of bats in Peru has changed since the time of von Tshudi. 5 October 2020 --- Today the book “Phyllostomid Bats, a Unique Mammalian Radiation” was published, the most up to date reference on one of the most diverse group of mammals. I collaborated on two chapters: “Phylogeny, fossils, and biogeography: the evolutionary history of the superfamily Noctilionoidea (Chiroptera: Yangochiroptera)” and “Phylogenetics and Historical Biogeography.” https://phyllostomids.weebly.com/ 22 September 2020 --- Our latest publication on human echolocation with comments on bat echolocation was published today in the HAPS Educator journal. https://doi.org/10.21692/haps.2020.016 9 July 2020 --- I was invited by Dr. Luis Aguirre of the Universidad Mayor de San Simón (Bolivia) to talk (online) to his class about bat evolution and diversity. 10 June 2020 --- I was invited by the "Programa de Conservación de Murciélagos de la República Dominicana" to give an online seminar via Zoom and Youtube. The title of my talk was: "Diversidad de Murciélagos en el Cuaternario de La Española." It was a great way to share my research on the bat fossils collected in flooded cave systems. Watch the talk here. 9 June 2020 --- Our latest publication on the second record of Centronycteris centralis Thomas, 1912 (Chiroptera: Emballonuridae) for the Choco biogeographic region of Colombia and its updated distribution was published today in the Journal of Bat Research & Conservation. doi.org/10.14709/BarbJ.13.1.2020.07 28 May 2020 --- I was invited by the "Programa de Conservación de Murciélagos de Perú" to give an online seminar via Facebook Live. The title of my talk was: "Resolviendo el Rompecabezas: Sistemática y Taxonomía de Murciélagos Neotropicales." It was a great way to share the recent changes and problems on the systematics and taxonomy of Neotropical bats. Watch the talk here 10 Mar 2020 --- Our latest publication on the systematics and taxonomy of the Choco broad-nosed bat was published today in Mammalian Biology. Morphological and molecular analyses suggest that Platyrrhinus chocoensis should be considered a junior synonym of Platyrrhinus dorsalis. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s42991-020-00007-z 24 Feb 2020 --- Our latest publication on the systematics and taxonomy of the Stripe-headed round-eared bat was published today in ZooKeys. Morphological and molecular analyses suggest that three species should be recognized in the widespread Tonatia saurophila. https://doi.org/10.3897/zookeys.915.46995 1 Jan 2020 --- As of today I am a Research Associate in the Department of Ornithology at The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University. |
